Work trip/conference.... turned into what felt like a vacation.
(Yes we took the University plane, and to be honest, it was a time in my career I wont forget. #Proud #Gamecock1)
Places to stay
Since the conference we attended had hotel blocks we stayed at the Sheraton Four Points. It was a hotel, great price, about a mile from campus, clear room, comfy bed, and breakfast in the morning. I will have to say that if you are planning to go to Texas A&M for a game then BOOK YOUR HOTEL yesterday. There are not a lot of options so time is essential.
Where we ate
Everything is bigger in Texas (obviously, the state is massive) and so is the food. Get your appetite ready!
- Fuego Tortilla Grill-this was a gem that we found as soon as we landed and it was surely amazing. Get the Dr. Pepper brisket taco and get two of them. Geeez it was amazing. They have all fresh ingredients BUT the one thing it is missing is booze. No booze=small fail for our first stop
- Blackwater Draw Brewing Company-Did someone say Texas beers here? Then this is your place. We went and tasted some beers. The food looked great but we had just eaten. The porch scene is awesome here and the inside smells of beers and wood (really what else in life could you want)!
- Freebirds Tacos-Think of Chipotle and then think of a step up. The food is fresh and you can make burritos in different sizes (small to extra large) and they serve beer here
- Chicken Oil-We did not eat here but our friends at A&M said that this is the place for great burgers
What we did
We were there for an SEC conference but let me tell you.... The Aggie peoples are the best in the country (besides Gamecocks, relax). Everything they do is top notch, fun times, and rich in tradition. Even though this was a work trip I felt like I was on vacation the whole time and felt so welcomed into their Aggie family. I cant say enough great things about A&M peoples and to be honest if given the chance at some point in my life I would love to work there and be a part of what they have going on.... because they have it goin' on.
- Texas A&M Alumni Center-We sent most of our days there and it is something to see. Go in, take a look around, visit with their staff, during football season drink beers and watch College Gameday with the peoples, and really take in what they are putting out
- Texas A&M Athletic Building-Remember Discovery Place in Charlotte that when you went as a kid there were so many buttons your mind almost exploded? Well this is a football person's heaven with buttons to touch. They have found a way to be interactive and fun at the same time for the adult mind
- Texas A&M campus-PLEASE take the tour by one of the Aggie Students. You will love hearing about their traditions, what they are doing on campus daily, and how proud they are to be an Aggie. Trust me, it is not annoying like other SEC schools where we don't care what they are doing... Aggies are different and you will agree with me once you take the tour
- George Bush Presidential Library-No matter your political views this is a must! It is filled with historic pieces from George Bush's presidency and really gives you an inside look into his life and family (I loved)
Looking back
I cant wait until we play them next year in football. I will be bringing a crew with me to enjoy all that they have to offer!
