Perfect in every way. Asheville is like a fine wine, only gets better with age. We spent the last part of our holiday vacation with some of our best friends celebrating the new year. Every time we go to Asheville we TRY and go to new spots; here are the new places we tried (of course we went to our staples so see other #AVLjaggs posts for more recs).
Before we get into bites and sites let me share some exciting news from the trip. Two of our very best friends got engaged while we were in Asheville and Jaggs and I played the role of Seal Team 6 for the engagement. A BIG congrats to Natalie and Anthony!
Where we stayed:
Four Points by Sheraton-GREAT location, able to walk to just about everything you want to downtown. The rates were pretty amazing for NYE celebration but that is off season for this sweet mountain town. Side note, it is also beside the hotel where Old South was held via 2005 which brought memories on memories of fun.
What we did:
- Twin Leaf Brewery-Only hate this was our first time because this brewery is AHmaze. The beer is enjoyable and the atmosphere/decor is inviting and simply just a damn good time. Highly recommend making this part of your brewery loop.
- Sovereign Remedies-whiskey lounge that smells of good booze and pastries. Not really sure what else you could want in life.
*We also went to our main staples that can be found on other blog posts about AVL*
Where we ate:
- Table-always wanted to try this spot and it happened to have brunch rezzies open via Open Table. The food is outstanding, the drinks are just as good, the service could be a bit better but we were laughing the whole time about the night before so it really didn't bother us that much.
- Limones-I am only made it has taken this long for us to eat here and now it will be an AVL staple. Think Mexican/Californian cuisine with some killer drinks. Everything we had was unreal, especially the lobster nachos and the ceviche sampler.
- Doc Chey-yes, a cheap meal in AVL that does not taste what it costs. Sign me up. Everything that everyone got tasted and looked amazing. Positive you can't go wrong with anything you order. I got the Black Bean Noodles which rocked my face off even if you aren't a veggie I would give this a try.
- Curate-three months before our trip I decided I wanted to end the year with one of our most favorite restaurants in the country (there I said it) and we had a freaking blasts. Three hour meal filled with gin & tonics, champs, tomato bread with anchovies and more food than I care to admit we had the time of our life. Plus at midnight they do a cava (Spanish champs) toast with the entire restaurant. If you are looking to do something for NYE where you can dress up and have a killer time with laughs on laughs with food you will tell you children about then this is your spot. See you there next year!
- Nightbell-another AVL staple that just does not get old. Same owner as Curate that will not disappoint your cocktail and food loving self. Get the "deviled egg" and thank me later.
Side note: Jaggs and I went to Hendersonville, NC for a little minimoon before the fun started in Asheville. If you have not been to Hendersonville I definitely recommend you stopping for a night to check out this small mountain town. The food is excellent (we always go to West First Pizza)and check out one of my favorite breweries in the south, Southern Appalachian Brewery where the beer is one of a kind and they have freshly made pretzels delivered from the bakery down the street during happy hour!
