My happy place and heart live in Austin, TX. Man, I can't get enough. The place is pure perfection and has something for every single walk of life. Take me back. Now.
Where we stayed
Two bedroom garage apartment, LITERALLY, on South Congress. The location COULD NOT BE BETTER. The house is clean, the beds are comfy and when you wake up in the morning you can smell the BBQ that is has been cooking all night. Hands down best all around place we have stayed in Austin. www.vrbo.com/3584859ha?unitId=3595963
What we did
- Bike Rental from Barton Springs Bike Shop- every trip we ride bikes around the lake and every time we say we wished we did this every morning. It is easy, it is fun, it is booze free and it is beautiful
- Whole Foods Flagship Store- come hungry and ready to sample. And be blow away with how much this store has to offer. You can taste beers, go to the wine bar, sit and watch them make pizzas... the possibilities are endless
- South Congress Shopping-perfect place to spend your hard earned dollars on vintage stores, cowboy boots, killer jewelry and old books
Where we ate
- Perlas-one of our favorite spots on South Congress, sit outside, get the rose and oysters and love life. The food is fantastic
- East Side King Thai Kun at Whistler-we FINALLY got to try Easy Side King and it did not dissapoint. This was a great meal to have after eating and drinking all day but not something I would make your dinner hot spot. The food is fantastic and the drinks from Whistler are amazing. Things were a little hazy at this point from our earl flight and a day of fun but would suggest eating here to try out a legendary Austin food truck
- Bouldin Creek Cafe & Coffee House-our favorite breakfast spot with vegan options BUT don't let that scare you away. They are doing breakfast right and everything they serve is either grown/made there or locally sourced. Get their chipotle pecan spread with toast and thank me later
- Unity Vegan Kitchen-after your bike ride around the lake go to this food truck right down the road from Barton Springs Bike Shop. I can see your eyes rolling at the thought of spending a meal on vegan food BUT you will be pleasantly delighted by their amazing take on your meat favorites reinvented!
- Uchi-O man. O man. O man. Without question top 10 best meals of my life. Get a rezzie and get it early. This place is the hot spot for Austin foodies and the food is unreal. And very well priced. If you go get the Walu Walu and know that your going to add this to the best things you ever ate. Everything is freaking excellent
- Clarks Oyster Bar-sister restaurant to Perlas we went here for my birthday lunch and are now mad that this has not been part of our rotation. The neighborhood/street it is on is so cute and the restaurant itself is very well decorated. You almost feel like you are in Paris and want to sit for hours. The food is spectacular and the drinks match the atmosphere. FOR SURE make this part of your Austin visit
- Home Slice Pizza-we were not going to go here this trip but after celebrating 32 years on this earth it felt like the right thing to do for our life and stomachs. The wait can be long but try sitting at the bar. The pizza is TO DIE FOR and it is an Austin must
- Torchy's Tacos-always the last place we eat before we hit the airport and it is what legends are made of. They opened a store on South Congress that looks amazing but we always love going to the Food Truck Trailer Park to get our fix. Their cheese dip will make you want to be a better person
- Easy Tiger-great beer hall in Austin with TASTY fresh made pretzels and breads to pair perfectly with your beverages
- Independence Brewery-had read great things about this spot and it did disappoint. I didn't love the beer, it was pretty out of the way. Not going to recommend it
- Bangers Beer Hall-for ssuuuuureee make this a priority and anything on Rainey St for that matter
- Craft Pride-located on Rainey St if you are looking for all the beers in Austin this is your spot
- The Towsend-excellent whiskey library in the downtown area. LOVED this bar and for sure will be adding it to our trips each time we go back
- Hops and Grain Brewery-our favorite brewery in Austin with fabulous beers in a warehouse. Big fan of their social media too
- Peche-another great whiskey library/restaurant that we had happy hour, located in downtown. The food didn't look that great but would add this to your happy hour schedule
- Blue Owl Brewery-we were with our best travel pals and they love sour beers so thought we would give in and let them enjoy their sock smelling beer. Was very pleasantly surprised by how cool this brewery was and how I actually like the beer. It is right around the corner from Hops and Grain so it could be a two stop part of your day
- Austin Beer Garden-the king of kings when it comes to beer gardens in Austin. Great selection of beer, brewed on site and they have pizza made in house that is pretty great
My love for Austin is strong. It is really where I constantly have a smile on my face and feel like at ease. Austin folks are so welcoming and the whole "Keep Austin Weird" thing just isn't there anymore. Austin is just doing everything right and we will continue to go there for my birthday every year. Take me back to the paradise city.
