Boston, MA

Boston, MA

My first thoughts before even getting to Boston was that it was just like New York City. It was going to be the normal hussel and bussel of a big city with street vendors everywhere and streets would be filled with fashions. Well, not so much. Boston has so much to offer but nothing like the big cities I have been in before.  One thing that they for sure do not lack on is assortment of things to do and food to eat. Clearly my most important starting points of any trip I plan.

Where we stayed: Fairmont Copley Plaza (note to travelers: my boyfriend recently found out that he can get SWEET Bank of America discounts on hotels across the world at a rate that will make you think twice about saying you cant travel. The hotel is usually around $500-$600 a night but we managed to swing Gold Level status rooms and floor accommodations for $325 a night which included a lounge fit for a king and complimentary freshly cooked breakfast and afternoon drinks and apps from 5-7. Jackpot.

Location: We stayed in downtown Boston literally at the finish line of the marathon and in walking distance of most everything. There were also three T train stops right by our hotel that literally could take you anywhere in the city. If you are thinking that you are going to be doing a lot of walking around and enjoying the city then this is the place to stay. We also wanted to enjoy our hotel amenities so we chose not to stay in the outer borrows because if you add up the inexpensive hotel room with the taxis you will have to take then it is not worth it!

Where we ate:
  • Eastern Standard, went there for Brunch and then for drinks one night and couldnt get enough of it! Outstanding Brunch but the real winner is going there for after dinner drinks. The vibe is almost a kick back to the 1920s with dark wood walls and mixologist behind the bar who know what they are doing. A few of the guys who are really into Bourbon had small fantasies fulfilled there with the selections
  • Island Creek Oyster Bar, game changing performance of the trip. Our table got almost everything on the menu from the lobster carbanara to the mussels in cous cous to the massive shrimp cocktail. You cant go wrong here and the atmosphere pays for itself.
  • Legal Seafood Harborside, best roof top bar in the city and best group of good looking folks we found. We sat on couches and ordered wine oysters and had the time of our life. Then headed down stairs to the 1st floor for dinner where I had truffle pizza which changed my life.
  • Casa Romero, cute little Mexican place off of Newberry which was fun and good. A little over priced for what they serve but good times we had there. Great sangria!
  • Top of the Hub, on the 52nd floor of the Prudential Building this little gem will give you an entire 360 view of Boston. Great drinks with a very young, hip, vibe.
What we did:
  • Harvard/Harvard Square, pretty campus, cool area of town, didnt spend a tone of time here because honestly I thought it was overrated. People raged about how cool Harvard Square was and how happening it was; I just saw a student flash mob and then a bunch of one man shoes with a hat in front collecting money
  • Quincy Market, another BIG disappointment, pretty similar to Broadway at the beach if you ask me. Lots of tourist there with well... souvenirs and a Hard Rock Cafe.
  • Little Italy (North End), the smells were great and it was fun to just look at menus. We ended up going to a roof top bar we found at Fiore restaurant and had a pizza there.
  • Marathon Monday, at some point in your life everyone must do this. It made me so appreciate that no part of me wants to ever run and that I have best friends who like to do it. So fun to cheer on runners and watch their accomplishments! We were in Kennmore Square at mile marker 25 which I highly recommend!
  • Fenway Park, totally a must. We sat in the bleachers and came to find out it was shaded. BEST SEATS IN THE BALL PARK!
  • Bars/happy hours, we did a lot of enjoying the city in bars and side walk tables. It is the way to see what Boston has to offer and just relax!
Looking Back:
  • If you are flying into Boston Logan airport then just take a cab, it will be about $20 and when you get in tell the can driver to go the tunnel way and not through the city. This will save you about ten dollaz.
  • Wouldnt have changed the location of our hotel for anything. We got so much out of the hotel with the booze, apps, breakfast, location that we would have paid a lot more! Even the fitness center was top notch.
  • Dont get in a cab if they do not have a TAXI sign on it. Our friends made the mistake of getting in one and they got charged out of the a$$ and it is actually illegal to be in them.
  • People who are from Boston and have lived there their whole lives are well.... massholes. The people were not overly friendly so just know that going in and you will be good to go.
